Mashup applications, Software+Services... Nowadays these are really interesting and fashionable words, but what's the truth? Are they really so important? What is the SQL Server Data Services (SSDS), and what kind of relationship are between SSDS and S+S?
SSDS is more than a database in the cloud or the database of mashup applications. Yes, this is based on huge datacenters, in a decentralized and replicated way around the world. Yes, the hosting and operating is independent for us, and we don't have to worry about these things. But there is a really big difference: it's not just a foreign-hosted database. The SSDS doesn't store items in relational data tables, but SSDS is entity-based. We can store flexible entities with dynamic property sets.
You can find more info about SSDS on Microsoft's site. In the followings, I'll write a lot of articles about SSDS, because of my presentation and demo on SharePoint Best Practices Conference (and probably other conferences). Yes, I'll cover the connection opportunities between SSDS and MOSS as well...
